马来西亚博特拉大学建于1931年，坐落在马来西亚首都吉隆坡附近高科技园区,地处马来西亚的硅谷、马来西亚国内外科研机构、马来西亚新政府管理中心——PURTRA JAYA以及马来西亚职业发展培训中心和大学的中心地带。1973年与马来亚大学农业系合并成为马来西亚农业大学，1999年正式改名为马来西亚博特拉大学。这是马来西亚规模最大、在校人数最多的大学（约有5万余人）。大学致力于发展研究生教学，向国际学生提供硕士以上学位课程。UPM有来自世界各地的50多个国家的留学生硕士研究生和博士研究生人数达1万人。
